The Seed of Inspiration

While most of the men in my family all worked in the family construction company I chose a different path, education. The desire and interest to build came later in life.

The inspiration and passion for building took root responding to my father. My father who had been a Medical Doctor, had been diagnosed with ALS in retirement and who loved to entertain wanted a live-edge palette bar built. He searched and researched to have someone build him his bar. When he explained what he wanted it to look like I knew I could give him that gift. I built him his bar for a fraction of the cost.

I found that working in education and having six kids at home left me feeling I had a desire to have some control in what I do, not anyone else, just my own ability and interest. I wanted to share the opportunity for others to grow their ideas, passions, and interests just as I was able to discover. Every person needs a passion. I hope Oak & Mortar helps you in growing yours.

Why Oak & Mortar?

Growing up in Pennsylvania I have fond memories of the Fall, raking leaves and the beautiful smell of Oak leaves burning. Those memories tie my emotional connection to the Oak. Mortar is the binding material the connects brick, block, stone, wood, and more. Finding a spiritual sense that we are bound and connected together is a compelling feeling that Oak & Mortar was devised with the intent to bring people and ideas together.
